Shari Ilsen
Stanford University
Subjects:
Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Psychology, General), Math (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus), English (writing, grammar, and vocabulary), Literature, SAT prep, GRE prep, History, and general study assistance.
Tutoring Philosophy:
"Learning and studying not only should be fun, it can be. The challenge I happily accept as a tutor is to truly connect with my students and help them develop their study habits into a fun part of their everyday lives. It's about determination, a positive mindset, and the necessary tools- together, my students and I have enough of everything to achieve extraordinary results!"
Background:
When Shari graduated from Stanford with a BA in Psychology, a BS in Biology, and a Writing minor, she was headed straight for a PhD program in Neuroscience. Her amazing experiences running Camp Kesem at Stanford (a summer camp for children whose parents have cancer), however, caused her to detour into the nonprofit sector, where she is now happily spending 25 of every 24 hours trying to save the world. She works as Marketing and Outreach Director for GreatNonprofits, a user-generated review website for nonprofit organizations. This fits nicely into her life goal of making charity and service a daily part of every person's life. When she isn't glued to her Blackberry, she explores the San Francisco culinary scene, trains for half-marathons, and cheers for Boston sports teams.
